Mātauranga Kura Taiao Fund

This fund supports whānau, hapū and iwi to revive, retain and promote traditional Māori knowledge. It also supports the application of this mātauranga to indigenous biodiversity management.

This fund is open for applications now.

The Mātauranga Kura Taiao Fund is a contestable fund. The fund supports projects designed to reclaim, revive, preserve, promote and practice of the use of traditional Māori knowledge in indigenous biodiversity management.

The fund aims to:

  • protect, preserve and promote:
    • traditional knowledge
    • history and stories
    • practices of tangata whenua.
  • restore kaitiaki responsibilities to protect the mauri of the whenua - uniting the spiritual, cultural and physical caretaking
  • increase tangata whenua capacity to keep and promote mātauranga Māori and its use
  • uphold the role of tangata whenua participation - consistent with customary knowledge and practice.
